I love portraits – portraits are how photography started for me. The very first photos I ever took were all portraits of my friends. I could spend hours taking their picture on an old digital camera.
Even though I often work with couples and families nowaday, my love for portrait photography is still going strong.
If you’re after perfect, smooth and posed studio-type photographs, then I might not be the right photographer for you. I love natural lifestyle photography, in documentary style with a slight vintage (film) vibe. Is this the style you’re after? Then we might be a match – yay!
One thing that is really important for my portrait sessions is the location: I want you to feel 100% comfortable and relaxed, and this is easiest achieved if we pick a location that you know and love. This can be a walk through your city, through the dunes or along the beach, or in your own garden or living room.
To create the kind of dreamy and soft vibe you can see in my photos, I recommend meeting on a sunny or slightly cloudy day, around an hour before sunset. This ‘golden hour’, as it’s called, creates the most beautiful natural light you can wish for in photography, with soft shadows and contrasts. If you’re more of a morning person also the first hour after sunrise is a great choice. Also cloudy days can be great for portraits, though. The clouds act like a massive softbox, filtering the sunlight.
I really think it’s so important to have a bit of a connection already before the photoshoot. It helps to create a more relaxed vibe of the day of the shoot, because we already know each other a bit and will feel more comfortable around each other.
Ideally, we will have a zoom session so we can also see each other and get to know each other even better! This way we can also exchange ideas better via screen sharing, for example. During the session we will discuss location, availability and style of the photoshoot. If there is anything in particular you already have in mind, feel free to share this with me anytime! I will try my best to accomodate to your wishes.
Once we have determined the location and set a date, you will receive an offer from me that lists all the details and pricing, as well as an invoice for the downpayment and a ‘style guide’ with tips for clothing and colours.
This way you know exactly what to expect before the shoot!
